Shira's video recorder uses an open source codec.
The codec is called "xvid" and is available for most players but is not necessarily installed on your computer.
If you are using Mocrosoft Media Player (I recommend using the latest version) you may need
this codec.

Well - without getting too geeky, a codec stands for "(en-)code" and "de-code".
When Shira's video camera encoded these AVI files, it used a non-proprietary scheme to store the video on disk.
Now you need the same software to play it. Thankfully the maker of her camera used a free standard that anyone can install.
